Have you ever pondered why Allah “swt” throughout Quran does not addresses our prophet Muhammad (pbuh) by his direct name?
Well, when some title is given to someone it means that someone has a very higher rank among others that he is called by his title and not just like O’. (Name). And Allah (swt) has of course immense love for his apostle (pbuh)!
Let’s then take a closer look, Allah says:” “O Zechariah, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be John.”
On the other hand, He (swt) says: “Oh Prophet, do not obey the disblievers and hypocrites”.
“Oh, he who wraps himself (with a garment), arise (to pray) part of the night except a little”.
“Oh, covered one, arise and warn”.
So, Allah (swt) does not address the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) by his direct name, rather He calls upon him with names signifying his noble status out of love and compassion.
In fact, the only time Allah does use the Messenger’s name “Muhammad” is to establish his link with the Prophethood and the message he has received.
He (swt) says:
“And Muhammad is not but a Messenger”.
"Muhammad is God’s apostle."
So, these beautiful verses serve as a subtle illustration of Allah’s close love for His Messenger that He will only call upon him by names signifying his noble role in favor of calling him by his direct name.
These verses also are not to downplay the greatness of any of the Prophets, but rather highlight the esteem of God’s Apostle, Peace and blessings be upon him!
