What is the wisdom behind performing Wudoo’ before going to bed?

While sleep, or at least deep sleep, invalidates Wudoo’, the prophet (pbuh) encouraged us in more than one occasion to maintain this Sunnah!

Here are some incentives to maintain the one Sunnah that yields much gain:

Angles make Duaa for you!

‘Whoever sleeps while in a state of purification then an Angel sleeps in his garment, he does not wake up at any time during the night except that the Angel says: O Allah forgive Your slave such and such since he went to sleep upon purification.’

Engaging in Salah and Dhikr the entire night!

Imam Abu Murayah Al ‘Ijli (Allah’s mercy be upon him) said:

‘Whoever retires to bed in the state of wudu and falls off to sleep while engaging in the dhikr of Allah Most High, his bed will be regarded as a Masjid . He will receive the reward of being in salah and dhikr until he awakens.’

The noble reward of Shaheed! (martyrdom)

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) once said to Anas, his servant boy, “My son, if you are able to always be on ablution, then do so, for the angel of death when he seizes the servant’s soul while the latter is in ablution, he records martyrdom for him.”

To die a Shaheed does not necessarily mean to die in the heat of battle. There are so many ways that a believing Muslim can be granted the honor of dying a Shaheed.

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, “He who truthfully asks Allah for martyrdom, Allah will raise him to the high status of the martyrs, even if he dies on his bed.”
