Here is how to prepare best for the day of Jummah

Many of us are so caught up in the humdrum of everyday activities and deadlines, and perhaps, we get a little too lost in the excitement of the upcoming weekend that we tend to overlook the blessedness of Friday itself!

Friday has many distinguishing features and virtues that Allah has bestowed upon this day and not others.

The messenger of Allah (pbuh) says: “Allah led those who came before us away from Friday. The Jews had Saturday, and the Christians had Sunday. Then Allah brought us and Allah guided us to Friday. So there is Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and thus they will follow us on the Day of Resurrection. We are the last of the people of this world but we will be the first on the Day of Resurrection, and we will be dealt with before all others.”

The Prophet’s Sunnah also singles out Jumu‘ah prayer by encouraging believers to do ghusl for it and to wear perfume (for men only). It is also strongly encouraged to come early for the prayer and there is a great deal of reward for walking to the prayer.

Here is your ultimate guide to make most of this blessed day:

Pray Fajr in congregation.

The Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The best prayer before Allah is Fajr prayer on Friday in congregation.”

One of the special features of Fajr prayer on Friday is that it is Sunnah to recite Soorat al-Sajdah in the first rak’ah and Soorat al-Insaan in the second.

The reason why these two soorahs are recited is because they mention the creation of Adam and what will happen on the Day of Resurrection, because that will come to pass on a Friday.

Offer Friday Prayer in Congregation and listen to the sermon

Allah says: “O you who believe, when the call is proclaimed for the Salaah on Friday (Jumu‘ah prayer), come to the remembrance of Allah [Jumu‘ah religious talk (Khutbah) and Salaah (prayer)] and leave off business (and every other thing). That is better for you if you did but know!”

Friday prayer is one of the most important obligations in Islam, and one of the greatest gatherings of the Muslims. Gathering on Friday is more important and more obligatory than any other gathering apart from ‘Arafah.

The prophet (pbuh) says: “Whoever neglects three Jumu’ahs, Allaah will place a seal on his heart.”

Jummah prayer expiates your sins, the prophet (pbuh) says: “The five daily prayers and from one Jumu’ah to the next is an expiation for whatever sins come in between them, so long as one does not commit a major sin.”

Make a lot of du’aa’.

On this day there is a time when a person’s du’aa  is answered .

The prophet (pbuh) says: “On this day there is a time when no Muslim stands and prays, asking Allah for something, but Allah will grant him it” – and he gestured with his hands to indicate how short that time is.

Ibn Al-Qayyim (may Allah be pleased with him) said with regards to the correct hour of Friday amid which this happens is after the Asr petition until the Maghrib supplication in view of the accompanying hadith: “Friday has twelve hours (or part of it). There is one hour during which if a Muslim asks Allah anything, Allah will give it to him, so find it during the last hour after Asr.”

Read Soorat al-Kahf.

This surha helps one expatiate from sins, gain blessings of Allah Almighty and prepare one’s self for the end of days. Hence, every Muslim individual must try getting into the habit of reciting soorat Al-Kahf regularly. Consciously take out time during the day to recite soorat Al-Kahf.

The prophet (pbuh) says: “Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on Friday, he will be illuminated with light between the two Fridays.

Send a lot of blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

The prophet (pbuh) says:: “The best of your days is Friday. On that day Adam (peace be upon him) was created; on that day he died; on that day the Trumpet will be blown; and on that day all of creation will swoon. So send a great deal of blessings upon me, for your blessings will be shown to me.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah, how will our blessings upon you be shown to you when you have turned to dust?” He said, “Allah has forbidden the earth to consume the bodies of the Prophets, peace be upon them.”
